Eames!

Charles (1907–1978) and Ray (1912–1988) Eames were American designers, married in 1941, who worked and made major contributions in many fields of design including industrial design, furniture design, art, graphic design, film and architecture.

secret pleasures

One of my favorite activities is treasure hunting for vintage furniture and knick knacks. Every chance I get, I browse Los Angeles craigslist and Goodwill. Unfortunately, I (1) live in a small apartment and (2) do not own a truck and (3) have limited income, and thus am barred from buying everything I fall in love with. Therefore I will post a few of my recent finds from craigslist-- these are items that I would buy immediately had I any/all of the aforementioned criteria fulfilled. Just a sampling of a few favorites:

3. Adorable loveseat- $100

2. Shabby Chic huge mirror from Bountiful in Venice- $80. Can be stood on the floor or hung in a small room to make it look larger. Beautiful!

1. 1960s Thomasville Credenza- $275. Listing mentions existence of matching tables and chairs. AND it's on wheels... Be still, my heart! The round mirror is delicious as well, but I envision using this as sort of a TV stand rather than a vanity table, as shown here.

I just might call the people selling that last one... anyone have a pickup truck?

(lack of) weekend work

This weekend marked the end of the torrential downpours... I did not get nearly as much work done as I wanted to. I did, however, get my hands on Showtime's The Tudors, season 1. Talk about a guilty pleasure...! Watching this show makes me feel so guilty and so pleasured. I love Tudor England-- it's been one of my geek-out points for ages. The beauty of the costumes and set on this show compensates for the numerous historical inaccuracies. The good looks of the cast compensate for their mediocre acting... and so on.

I really need to read my assignments!!

small successes

At lab by 8:15am today! Now let me not squander it by blog-posting, even if I only got to my current situation because I was trying to avoid walking in again-imminent rain.
Will now read for class, go to class much better prepared; participate and ask intelligent questions. Be propelled to do likewise or better on all other days due to surprisingly rewarding nature of such healthy behavior. Onward!

new attempt

After a complete failure to keep up with this blog (and multiple other blogging endeavors), I am starting again, again. I am currently backed up with an ungodly amount of procrastinated reading. On the order of 200 or so pages. Have concluded that reading is an extremely inefficient method of knowledge acquisition, or acquisition in general. Of all the organs in our body that are a method of inputting things to our brain, the eyes surely are the worst choice for reading.

1. We see many other things too, not just the things we read. Prime examples include: computer, computer, food, TV, computer, computer, computer. All of those things are either shinier or tastier.
2. Eyes are small balls enclosed in flaps of skin. Highly inefficient and slow, since this limits us to about a 1/4-sq-foot viewing area per instant.
3. Other reasons that I will not mention since the novelty of feeling insightful-ish and highly chic while writing in blog while sitting in cafe just wore off.

Will resolve self to reading about recent advances in antigen processing and presentation. Will think about how to ingest information via mouth.
